Get to know Jamie!

Jamie is beginning a year-long internship at Discovery as part of a discernment year exploring their call to ministry. Alongside their internship work, Jamie runs a private tutoring practice teaching computer science and math, drawing on a B.S. in Computer Science from UC Davis and an M.S. in Computational Linguistics from the University of Washington. Outside of ministry and tutoring, Jamie can be found dancing, weightlifting, or gaming.

Jamie was drawn back to following Jesus by his vision of radical inclusion — his pursuit of the outcast, his welcome of those whom religious elites called unclean or sinful, and his breaking down of the racial, gender, and social barriers that kept people from right relationship with God, one another, and themselves. That same conviction shapes how Jamie sees God at work — not only in the expected places, but in the people and spaces we're too often told to look away from. During their internship, Jamie will help organize and expand the church's ministry to the unhoused community. They are honored to be the first openly queer and transgender person to join Discovery's staff team, and brings that lived experience into their ministry.
