“He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” Micah 6:8

Hi Friends,

I don’t know if you have a “life verse.” I always sort of cringe at that language. However, if I had to pick a life verse I guess it would be Micah 6:8. (I use it as my bio in all my social accounts, so that counts for something =)

Anyway, I’ve been reflecting on these words a lot recently, and I am looking forward to continuing our Counter Culture conversation next month as we reflect on this verse together.

A couple of reminders, and a big encouragement to close:

On Sunday, October 25th, we will NOT have any Gatherings, digital or live. Instead we will be serving collectively in many creative ways around Davis and Woodland. We are calling it Serve Sunday and are looking forward to this becoming a regular part of our life together. More details are coming this Sunday (the 18th), and then after the 18th that information will be shared on the App, Website, through Groups, and in a follow-up email.

This month we have been in the process of moving our online giving platform. This is allowing us to streamline our backend administration and make it easier for you to give and track your giving. Thank you for bearing with us during this transition! If you have not set up giving with the new system you can do so here. (I recommend using ACH if you can, as it has a smaller fee).

Finally, we are in a crazy election season (just in case you hadn’t noticed). As your pastor, I can’t make any endorsements, but I do encourage you to vote. Not only is this a presidential election, but California has a lot of propositions on the ballot, and there are many important local decisions as well here in Davis (city counsel, school board, etc).

As we get nearer to November 3rd, my challenge to each of us is to thoughtfully engage this moment.

To ask the questions: What does it mean to move through the election season Counter Culturally? To vote from a Micah 6:8 framework? To think through our ballots as an Ephesians 2, Resurrection Community? What if our posture was one of obedience to the great commandment (Love God, Love our Neighbors)?

Discovery, I am praying for you as we face this difficult year together!

Grace and Peace,
Steve
